Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann has admitted interest in Owen Bailey and Luke Molyneux is expected this summer after both impressed in League One.
The pair have been central to Rovers’ return to the third tier, helping stabilise the club after three years away and quickly establishing themselves at the level.
Key Pair Driving Rovers Forward
Bailey has delivered a standout season, scoring 16 goals in all competitions while taking on the captaincy. His influence has extended beyond output, providing leadership in a side that has adapted well to League One football.
Molyneux has complemented that impact in attacking areas, contributing 15 goal involvements in the league and offering consistency across the campaign. Both players are playing at this level for the first time, yet neither has looked out of place.
Their performances have been recognised beyond the club. Bailey has earned a place in the League One Team of the Year, while Molyneux’s progression continues after being included in the League Two equivalent last season. That trajectory has only increased interest as clubs assess potential summer targets.
McCann Acknowledges Transfer Reality
Speaking after the club’s end-of-season awards, McCann was clear on the situation. Interest is part of the territory when players perform at a high level, and he expects that to be the case again in the coming months.
“Owen’s been outstanding ever since he came to the club. His dedication to us as a club and his teammates is clear, and obviously he’s taken the captaincy this year and has been really good at that.”
“He’s a different type to Richard Wood and is more of a quiet leader who does things out on the pitch and he’s rightly been named in the EFL Team of the Year.”
“It shows what can happen if you’re consistent and dedicated every single day then this is what can happen.”
“And as much as we want to keep these two players at our football club there’s no doubt there’s going to be big suitors looking at them in the summer.”
Both players remain under contract until 2027, with Bailey also having an extension option in his deal. That gives the club a level of protection, but strong performances at this level often bring offers that test that position.
McCann also made it clear the club will not stand in the way of progression if the right opportunities arise, while still expecting both players to deliver in the present.
“We want to try and help people go to bigger and better things, but ultimately do well for us in the meantime.”
With interest building and the window approaching, the next phase for both players looks set to be shaped by how that balance is handled.
