‘Few Things To Work Out’ – Michael Skubala On Final Lincoln City League One Lineup

Michael Skubala refused to be drawn on whether we’d see changes this weekend as Lincoln City travel to Port Vale for the final game of the season.

The Imps are on 100 points, and the League One title is already in the bag, so there is little to play for. Port Vale are already relegated, so the only thing to play for is the 29-game unbeaten run.

Fans have wondered whether we might see Kamil Conteh or Erik Ring make a start, both fringe players of late, but Michael told the press that there is still the unbeaten run to protect.

“The lads still want to try and go one more unbeaten, want to finish off on a high,” he said in his pre-match press conference.

“So, I think we’ll see a competitive team out there for sure. Just want to make sure that anybody that’s got any slight injuries that we don’t risk because we definitely don’t want to lose bodies at this point ready to preseason.

“So, yes, still a few things to work out ready for training tomorrow and then into the final game.”

He admitted preparations have been a little different compared to usual weeks, with promotion and the title in the bag, but that the players certainly haven’t taken their foot off the gas in training.

“We love playing games. So, yeah, a bit different because like you say, not a few things to play for, but everything we feel like we needed to do this season is achieved.

“I think it’s been a great atmosphere for the last few days. The lads have had a few days off, been back in today. They trained really well, actually, but this is what’s good about this group. They’re always at it.

They need to be at it for one more time against Port Vale in order not just to get promoted, not just to win the title, not just to become centurions for the first time in Lincoln City history, but now to take the record unbeaten run for League One from Luton Town.
