Kamil Conteh was part of the Lincoln City squad that went 29 games unbeaten, and got minutes against Port Vale on the final game of the season.
The Sierra Leone midfielder has now been brought down to earth, as he’s been told he is available for transfer by parent club Bristol Rovers. He’s still under contract with the Gas, but is one of seven players placed on the transfer list by Steve Evans.
Conteh is joined on the transfer list by Luke Southwood, Taylor Moore, Isaac Hutchinson, Josh McEachran, Macauley Southam-Hales and Jed Ward as Evans begins his usual clear-out. He’s also released Tom Lockyer and Luke Thomas as he begins the inevitable early business.
Kamil has become something of a cult hero at the Bank, signing on loan with little chance of game time. He was covering for Tom Bayliss, Ivan Varfolomeev and Conor McGrandles, and the only time one of those players got injured was ahead of the final game of the season. That was Kamil’s moment, 31 minutes in the record-breaking 29th game unbeaten for City. He was probably lucky to stay on the field, booked for one late challenge; he caught Tyler Magloire late, five minutes after, but was not booked.
Kamil will now be looking for a club, seemingly on the edge of Steve Evans’ plans. There shouldn’t be a shortage of takers. Prior to his injury with Rovers, he was a hot prospect, and cost them a reported £300,000 when they bought him from Grimsby Town. He was recently capped by Sierra Leone against Azerbaijan, and can include being part of a record-breaking, title-winning squad as part of his CV.
In other Imps-related news, one-time City full-back Aaron Lewis has been released by Mansfield Town, despite playing a significant role this season. Lewis is one of three players being let go by Nigel Clough’s side as they look towards next season, although another former Imp, George Maris, is in contract talks at Field Mill.
The Stags have also confirmed a third player with Sincil Bank connections, Joe Gardner, has returned to Nottingham Forest after a tough season where he bagged once in just 17 outings.
