Former Lincoln City goalkeeper Paul Farman has extended his contract at the Imps new Championship rivals, Swansea City.
The experienced goalkeeper left Sincil Bank eight years ago, but has added further experience in English football, predominantly in the north-west.
However, after leaving Barrow last summer, Farman surprisingly found himself two divisions higher with Swansea.
And while his impact hasn’t been evident on the pitch, the 36-year-old has been a popular member of the Swans squad.
Farman initially carved out a career in the north-east of England, starting with a short spell at Newcastle United. After a handful of appearances with Blyth Spartans, amid a loan at Washington, he moved to Gateshead. During his time south of the River Tyne, the goalkeeper had his first experience in Lincolnshire during a short-term loan.
However, he moved to the Imps permanently in 2012, becoming City’s first-choice keeper in his debut campaign. His gametime varied over the next couple of years, playing 28 games in the fifth-tier during the 14/15 campaign as he battled alongside Nick Townsend. However, such was his impact that season that he signed a new deal and won the club’s Player of the Season award.
Farman barely missed a minute in the next two years, helping City win the National League and reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. Promotion to League Two was ultimately to his detriment, though he still managed 13 appearances in League Two, alongside playing a crucial role in the Imps’ EFL Trophy run to Wembley.
After over 200 appearances for Lincoln, he joined fourth-tier rivals Stevenage in the summer of 2018. Farman spent the next seven years at that level, enjoying regular football with Cumbrian outfits Carlisle United and Barrow.
Time At Swansea City
While yet to make his Swans debut, Farman was named on the bench for all five of their domestic fixtures this season, as Swansea reached the fourth round of the League Cup. Their exploits in the FA Cup were much shorter, losing to West Bromwich Albion on penalties, when another former Imp, Josh Griffiths, saved a spot-kick in the shootout for the visitors. In their final game of the season, the 6ft 5 goalkeeper was named in a Championship matchday squad for the first time against Charlton Athletic.
Speaking to the Swans media following this announcement, Farman was delighted to extend his stay in South Wales.
“I have loved my time at Swansea, and I am over the moon that I will be staying with the club next season. To have the opportunity to work with coaches and players at such a high level has been one I have relished, and I am already excited about the chance to get back down to work when pre-season starts.
“The facilities and expertise of the staff at Fairwood are right up there with the very best I have experienced in my career, and it has been a pleasure to be able to test myself and continue to learn in such an environment. There is a lot of positivity around the club at the moment, and hopefully we can keep that going as a group during the 2026-27 season.”
