It has been another busy day across the Championship, with managerial decisions, transfer uncertainty, play-off controversy and injury news all shaping the early summer picture. Blackburn Rovers feature twice, Southampton’s play-off build-up has been overshadowed by an EFL charge, and Birmingham City have been dealt a setback involving one of their midfielders.
Blackburn Prepared To Sell Key Duo
Blackburn Rovers are prepared to sell Todd Cantwell and Ryan Alebiosu this summer as they look to raise funds ahead of another important window.
According to Football Insider, Rovers now view both players as sellable assets, despite having rejected approaches for Alebiosu during the January window.
Cantwell’s situation appears particularly pressing. The former Norwich City and Rangers midfielder is reportedly among the highest earners at Ewood Park, while his contract runs until 2027. That means this summer may represent Blackburn’s best chance to bring in a fee before the risk of losing him for nothing becomes more serious.
The 28-year-old made 29 appearances this season, scoring five goals and adding three assists. Alebiosu, meanwhile, played 40 times, contributing one goal and five assists from defence.
Rovers are also said to believe a significant offer for Alebiosu could help fund reinvestment into the squad, with the 24-year-old having attracted interest earlier in the year.
The situation points towards a potentially difficult summer at Ewood Park. Blackburn finished 20th in the Championship, and selling established first-team players would create obvious gaps, but the club appear to be looking at player trading as a way of reshaping the squad.
