Another Day, Another Lincoln City Award Nomination

Another day, and yet another potential accolade for Lincoln City. Jack Moylan has been nominated for the PFA League One Fans’ Player of the Month award for April after helping City clinch the League One title in emphatic fashion.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder scored three goals during the month as the Imps wrapped up the championship with 103 points, securing promotion to the Championship for the first time in 61 years. His standout contribution came away at Reading, where his late winner earned City a 2-1 victory at the Select Car Leasing Stadium and confirmed promotion.

I still get goosebumps when I hear that commentary. Jack Moylan…. Championship. Shivers.

The 24-year-old might have grabbed the headline goal, but that wasn’t his only input in April. He grabbed the opener as the Imps beat Leyton Orient 2-1 at the Bank a week after the Reading win, and finished the month by opening the scoring against Wycombe Wanderers in the final home game of the season, which saw us presented with the League One trophy.

Moylan’s impressive form also brought international recognition, with the 23-year-old receiving his first senior call-up to the Republic of Ireland squad. He’s due to face Grenada this weekend and is currently on a training camp with the Irish squad in Spain. He’s the first Lincoln City-owned player to be called up by a home nation since Gareth McAuley and Jeff Hughes in 2006.

The City midfielder is shortlisted alongside a host of familiar names, none more so than Tayo Edun of Stockport County. It’s good to see Tayo back on form, albeit for an opponent, as he was a player I really liked at City.

Bolton Wanderers striker Johnny Kenny, Luton Town’s Kasey Palmer, Stevenage defender Carl Piergianni and Plymouth Argyle forward Lorent Tolaj make up the rest of the list.
