Former Lincoln City player Nick Andersen has been appointed as the new manager of Harrowby United following the club’s relegation from the United Counties League Premier Division North.
The Arrows confirmed Andersen as the successor to Jonathan D’Laryea, who stepped down after the club dropped into Division One at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
Andersen is no stranger to Harrowby, having previously been involved with the club’s management set-up, and the hierarchy believe his understanding of the club’s culture and ambitions made him the standout candidate for the role.
Andersen might not be remembered hugely by City fans. Navenby-born, he opted to spend his apprenticeship at Mansfield Town, despite Colin Murphy eagerly pursuing him. He made his full debut for the Stags aged just 17, coming on in the Third Division as they drew 1-1 with Chester.
In the summer of 1989, Murphy got his man. Andersen joined on a three-month trial, playing in two county cup matches ahead of the big kick-off. He started on the right against Scunthorpe on the opening day, with fellow new boy Matt Carmichael on the scoresheet.
Andersen’s Imps career took an inadvertent hit when we sold Tony James, leading to some spending money for the Imps. Paul Groves was loaned from Leicester City, and Andersen dropped to the bench for the League Cup clash with Wolves. That was his final act in a City shirt, aside from a handful of outings for the reserves.
In October, Groves departed, but was replaced by then-club record signing Alan Roberts for £60,000. In the same week, Andersen was allowed to join Nuneaton Borough, a move which didn’t get coverage in the Echo at all. He later played for Grantham, Tamworth and Corby, amongst others.
This appointment also sees Andersen continue that lengthy involvement in Lincolnshire non-league football, having previously managed Harrowby as well as enjoying spells with Grantham Town, Newark Town and Spalding United. Most recently, he spent last season in charge of Lincolnshire League side Fulbeck United.
Speaking after his appointment was confirmed, Andersen admitted he was excited to return to the club and begin preparations for the new campaign.
“I’m really pleased to accept the role of manager at Harrowby United.
“It means a lot to me to be involved again, and I’m looking forward to getting started, working with the players and giving everything I can to help the club move forward.”
Chairman Mick Atter believes the new boss is the ideal figure to rebuild momentum following a disappointing season which ended in relegation.
“We are delighted that Nick has accepted the offer to become manager of Harrowby United.
“After a disappointing season, we feel that Nick has the right skill set, ability and affinity with the club to take us forward.
“We have full faith that Nick is the best person to lead the club and instill a desire and culture that the supporters can get behind on a game day.
“I hope that we can stick together and push forward for the journey ahead.
“We’d also like to extend a sincere thanks to everyone who applied for the role. The standard of applicants was incredibly high, and we appreciate the time, effort, and interest shown.
“We’re excited for this next chapter and can’t wait to see what lies ahead.”
Harrowby now face the challenge of regrouping after relegation and attempting to mount a promotion push from Division One next season.
