Lincoln City’s 2025/26 campaign will be the most memorable season for the club. They finally got promoted to the Championship after seven seasons in League One.
They won by a long shot as well, finishing 1st with 103 points. In 2nd, Cardiff City had 91 points, and the 3rd, which was Stockport, had 77 points, so they had a 12 to 26 point lead from positions 2 and 3.
Without question, it’s impressive, and a lot of the success comes down to the manager who generally built something impressive at the LNER Stadium this year.
A Title-Winning Campaign

In the 2024/25 season, the Imps finished 11th. Therefore, they didn’t really enter the 2025/26 season with a win in mind.
However, Michael Skubala, who left the club today, managed to pull it off. In fact, they secured the League One title back in early April because they had such a significant lead.
Now, they have their first-ever League One title, a defining moment for the club. They can now enter the Championship for the first time ever.
The Key Moments

The results that Lincoln City had throughout the season were nothing but impressive. However, there are a few key moments that we can look back on.
A big memorable moment was two 4-0 home wins against Northampton and Blackpool. Their performance in a 2-0 victory against Cardiff City in front of more than 27,000 supporters is one to remember as well.
Throughout the whole season, their home form was strong. No wonder their average attendance was over 9,400 and peaked at 10,235 – their form was too good to miss out on for fans.
Adding to this, Ron Fowler stepped into the boardroom. This has completely changed the direction of the club, off and on-pitch.
Beyond the League
Unfortunately, Lincoln’s cup runs were cut short. The FA Cup ended in the first round against Salford City, and the EFL Trophy run finished in the Round of 32.
The EFL Cup looked promising. They managed to get to the third round. They even managed to earn a tie with Chelsea, but that’s about it.
Off the pitch, they strengthened their commercial portfolio. Branston became their front-of-shirt sponsor. They’ve also just announced Jewson as a new club sponsor for the 2026/27 season.
We imagine they’ll get a gambling sponsor soon as well. Platforms that offer casino UK games, like slots and table games, tend to form lucrative deals for Championship teams. Stoke City, for example, already has one worth £3 million to £3.2 million per season.
What’s Next
For the first time in well over a decade, Lincoln City has a new challenge in front of them. They’re now stepping up in football and playing in the Championship. This represents a new beginning financially, competitively, and commercially.
How they’ll perform, well, we’ll just have to wait and see. What we do know, however, is that the team will have a strict pre-season training regimen, with a plan to avoid relegation next season.
