Lincoln City will kick off the Championship season with a toughie, away at beaten play-off semi-finalists and beaten play-off finalists, Middlesbrough.
The Riverside might not be a familiar ground, but we will be getting familiar opposition on the second Saturday of the season, as Portsmouth come to the Bank. They famously denied us a play-off spot in 2023/24 with a final-day win, so we’ll be looking for a little revenge.
Other ‘highlights’ include a theme of London nights. Of the five London trips we make (West Ham, QPR, Charlton, Watford, and Millwall), three will be in midweek, including our trip to West Ham. Even more galling, West Ham’s visit to the Bank is also a Tuesday night, although it’s probably still going to be a full house.
I complained about the relentless Christmas schedule this year, and 2026/27 is different – we have just three festive matches, and only one at the Bank: West Brom on Boxing Day. We play Burnley on December 29th, and Norwich on New Year’s Day, but we’re spared the extra game stargith after Christmas, with our second league game of 2027 not coming until January 16th, courtesy of the FA Cup Third Round.
While we’re not sure who will do well next season, those final four matches look tasty. Stoke and Blackburn are both clubs juggling a few performance issues of late, and Bolton’s promotion means they’ll likely be around us come the end of the season. Charlton are another side yet to establish in the Championship, which could make for a big fixture on the final day.
Lincoln City fixture points to note
Supporters should note that the opening round of Championship fixtures will all be shown on Sky Sports, either on the main football channel or via Sky Sports+. Clubs selected for the main Sky Sports Football channel, along with those moved to a 12.30 pm kick-off for Sky Sports+, will be informed directly. Any opening day fixture not selected for the main channel or moved to 12.30 pm will remain scheduled for Saturday 15th August at 3.00 pm and will still be broadcast on Sky Sports+.
Standard kick-off times will see Saturday fixtures initially listed for 3.00 pm, with midweek games scheduled for either 7.45 pm or 8.00 pm. Over Christmas and New Year, Boxing Day fixtures on Saturday 26th December are set for 3.00 pm, Tuesday 29th December fixtures for 7.45 pm, and New Year’s Day fixtures on Friday 1st January for 3.00 pm, although all remain subject to live TV selections or mutually agreed changes. Clubs have been asked to identify any proposed changes early, with opponent and police agreement required before requests to alter dates or kick-off times can be made.
The Match Round Six schedule (Bristol City) will be split across two separate dates because of potential Carabao Cup Round Three clashes involving Championship clubs, with final details not confirmed until after the cup draw.
Sky Sports selections for Match Two to Match Eight are expected later this week, while October, November and December selections are due to be announced by 31st July, January and February by 6th November, and March fixtures will then follow on a rolling weekly basis.
All Championship final day matches will kick off at 12.30 pm on Saturday, 1st May 2027.
