Lincoln City look set to add to their backroom staff with the arrival of Jake Lloyd from Hartlepool United.
The move has emerged after Pools confirmed the appointment of Danny Nye as their new Head of Performance and Sports Science, with Lloyd leaving Victoria Park after accepting a role with the Imps. Hartlepool thanked him for his professionalism and contribution during his time with the club, and wished him well for the future.
The announcement did not confirm Lloyd’s exact job title at City, so it is worth treating the detail with caution at this stage. City recently advertised for an experienced physiotherapist to work within the Academy department, with the post centred on managing the academy medical operation, including staff, injury protocols, emergency action plans and medical equipment. The role also included pitchside first aid, injury assessment, treatment and rehabilitation across the academy programme.
Whether that is the position Lloyd is taking has not been confirmed. However, the advertised remit does show that we have been looking to strengthen the medical and performance side of the club, and Lloyd’s background sits in that general area. His career so far has been built around strength and conditioning, sport science and player performance, rather than the sort of public-facing role that usually attracts attention during the summer.
Jake Lloyd career
Lloyd had been with Hartlepool since the summer of 2025, when he joined as Head of Strength and Conditioning. His departure comes after a single season in the North East, with the National League side now moving quickly to fill the gap by bringing Nye into their performance department.
Before his time at Hartlepool, Lloyd had spells with Crawley Town and Gateshead, working across sport science, performance and conditioning roles. He was Lead Sport Scientist at Crawley for the first half of 2025, following a period as Head of Sport Science with Gateshead between July 2024 and January 2025.
His earlier experience also includes time with Notts County, where he worked as a Strength and Conditioning Intern between July 2022 and May 2023. He studied Sport and Exercise Science at Nottingham Trent University, graduating after a four-year course between 2020 and 2024.
The move gives the Imps another member of staff with recent experience across the EFL and National League, as well as a background in GPS data analysis, Microsoft Excel and the daily physical preparation of players. Those areas rarely grab headlines, but they are an important part of how clubs manage training load, recovery and matchday readiness across a long season.
City have yet to formally announce Lloyd’s arrival, but Hartlepool’s statement makes clear that his next step will be at Sincil Bank.
