Lincoln City Linked With Move For Grimsby Town Coach

Lincoln City are in negotiations with Grimsby Town over a move to bring assistant head coach Shaun Pearson to Sincil Bank, according to Sky Sports News.

The report, from Peter Smith, states that the Imps want to add Pearson to the backroom staff following promotion to the Championship. No agreement has yet been announced by either club, but talks are understood to be taking place between us and Grimsby.

Pearson has been part of the coaching set-up at Blundell Park since his playing career ended in 2023. He retired after a second spell with Grimsby and remained at the club as part of Paul Hurst’s backroom team, having already been involved in scouting reports and academy coaching before stepping fully into life off the pitch.

The 37-year-old is Grimsby’s assistant head coach and has already had a brief spell in charge of the first team. In October 2023, following the departure of Hurst and assistant Chris Doig, Pearson and Ben Davies were placed in joint caretaker charge while the Mariners searched for a new head coach.

Pearson had a long association with Grimsby as a player, first joining the club from Boston United in 2011. A centre-back, he made 207 league appearances during his first spell at Blundell Park, helping the club win promotion back to the Football League through the National League play-offs in 2016.

He left for Wrexham in 2017, where he spent four years before returning to Grimsby in 2021. His second spell included another promotion from the National League, with Grimsby beating Solihull Moors in the 2022 play-off final. He also had a short loan spell back at Boston United during the final season of his playing career.

Across his senior career, Pearson played for Spalding United, Stamford, Boston United, Grimsby Town and Wrexham. He was twice named Boston United Supporters’ Player of the Season and was part of Grimsby sides that reached FA Trophy finals in 2013 and 2016.

Pearson will be known to at least one member of the Imps’ staff already: Joe Hutchinson will have worked alongside him at Blundell Park during his time away from Sincil Bank.
