Former Celtic Youth Makes Surprise Boston United Switch

Boston United have continued their busy summer recruitment drive with the surprise signing of attacking midfielder Connor McBride following his departure from Rochdale.

The 25-year-old has signed an initial one-year deal at the Jakemans Community Stadium, becoming the Pilgrims’ seventh arrival of the summer. His move adds further attacking depth to Paul Hurst’s squad, with the club stating that more new faces are expected to follow.

McBride arrives after two seasons with Rochdale, where he was part of the squad that reached last season’s National League promotion final. He made 30 appearances during Dale’s campaign and also featured in three of the four meetings between Rochdale and Boston over the past two seasons.

The attacking midfielder began his career in the youth system at Celtic, one of the biggest clubs in Scottish football, before later spending time with Blackburn Rovers. He went on to build senior experience north of the border with Stenhousemuir, Queen’s Park and Raith Rovers.

His route then took him into English non-league football, where a productive spell with Gateshead in the National League helped raise his profile before he joined Rochdale for a two-year stint.

Boston have already been active in the market, with McBride following Jack Holmes through the door after the versatile midfielder arrived from Rotherham United. The Pilgrims have also seen movement in the other direction, with striker Kieren Donnelly completing a permanent switch to National League rivals Tamworth.

McBride’s arrival adds another creative option in the final third as Boston continue shaping their squad for the new campaign. With seven signings already completed and further business expected, the Pilgrims’ summer rebuild shows no sign of slowing down.

Lincoln City fans will get a chance to see McBridge in action a week on Saturday, as the Jakeman’s Stadium plays host to our first pre-season fixture of the campaign, something of a tradition in recent seasons.
