Lincoln City have had two home Championship fixtures moved to earlier kick-off times after selection for Sky Sports+ coverage.

The Imps’ meeting with Portsmouth at Sincil Bank on Saturday 22nd August will now kick off at 12.30 pm, having originally been scheduled for later in the day.

Southampton’s visit to Lincolnshire has also been brought forward. That game will take place on Saturday, 5th September, with kick-off now set for 12.30 pm.

Sky Sports will also broadcast every opening weekend fixture across the Championship, League One and League Two live, as part of their EFL coverage.

The clash with Pompey will be their first visit since the final day of the 2023/24 season, when a Danny Mandroiu-missed penalty cost us dearly. Portsmouth’s 2-0 win ensured we did not make the play-offs, despite a brave charge under Michael Skubala.

As for Southampton, this will be the first league clash between the two sides at the Bank since March 1961, when the Saints won 3-0. They have visited twice since, both times in the League Cup.

The last time, City led for much of the encounter, a 1996 Coca-Cola Cup replay. Egil Ostenstad’s dive allowed Jim Magilton to level, and the Premier League side went on to win 3-1.

They also visited in 1988, months after our promotion from the GMVC. On that occasion, we drew 1-1, before losing the second leg 3-1, again against a First Division side.

The last time we beat them at the Bank was September 1932, our first meeting, which ended in a 1-0 win for City.
