Middlesbrough Secure Recently Relegated Championship Midfielder

Middlesbrough have secured the services of former Oxford United midfielder Myles Peart-Harris on a four-year deal.

After departing Oxford at the end of his short-term deal this summer, Peart-Harris has returned to the Championship with last season’s beaten play-off finalists.

The 23-year-old was previously on the books of Chelsea before remaining in West London with Brentford for a seven-figure fee. Alongside four Premier League appearances he made for the Bees, Peart-Harris played five times in cup competitions. His final action for Brentford came against Everton at the start of 2026, appearing in their matchday squad in the top-flight on four occasions in the most recent campaign.

Away from the Gtech Community Stadium, he found regular first-team football at Forest Green Rovers. Initially joining the Nailsworth-based outfit until January 2023, he earned a full season in League One following his performances in the first half of the campaign. Scoring six times in 47 appearances, Peart-Harris returned to the third tier of English football with Portsmouth in the 23/24 campaign.

Before that, he had built up some first-team involvement back in the capital during the first half of that season. After overcoming surgery on his ankle, Peart-Harris then became the beneficiary of injuries to Brentford personnel to make five appearances off the bench for the Bees’ first team. Tasked with helping Pompey win promotion to the Championship, the midfielder achieved just that, bagging two goals in 12 appearances to help them win the League One title.

Naturally, he progressed into the Championship with Swansea City. Utilised as a winger in South Wales, he proved his second-tier pedigree by playing 29 times and scoring three goals. That earned a return to the second tier in the second half of last season with Oxford, matching his goal tally in 10 fewer league outings.

Speaking after penning a four-year deal at Middlesbrough, Peart-Harris is excited to get going at his new club.

“I’m delighted to be here. Everyone is aware that this is a massive club which is moving in the right direction, and I want to be part of this great project.

“As soon as I was told Middlesbrough were interested, I just wanted to get it done. It’s a very good footballing side with a great manager and a strong support, so it’s brilliant to be part of it now.”

Middlesbrough Gunning For Glory

Middlesbrough had a roller coaster season, which ultimately ended in them setting an unwanted record of becoming the first side to lose in the play-off semi-finals and final in the same season. Kim Hellberg arrived mid-season in the north-east, meaning this is his first summer to mould his squad.

Although the transfer window has only been open for a couple of weeks, Boro have been active in trying to avenge last season’s play-off defeats. The side that beat them at Wembley, Hull City, had been set to offload forward Kyle Joseph to the Teessiders for around £5m. The Tigers needed to satisfy Financial Fair Play rules in the Premier League, but they were able to manage that without the sale of Joseph.

That move is currently off, though it may be resurrected later in the summer depending on the state of both sides’ squads as the summer progresses. Middlesbrough will receive an injection of cash after Hayden Hackney stepped up to the Premier League with Everton for an eight-figure fee. The homegrown midfielder starred with his former club last term and leaves Boro with a huge hole to fill ahead of their season opener with Lincoln City.
