Former Lincoln City loanee Morgan Rogers could be one of the biggest names of the summer transfer window, with Arsenal interest reportedly stepping up amid a valuation that could climb beyond £116 million.

Rogers, who spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at Sincil Bank, is now at the centre of a major Premier League transfer battle after his rise with Aston Villa and England. TEAMtalk reports that Arsenal are preparing an opening bid for the 23-year-old, having made significant progress in talks with the player’s representatives.

The report claims Arsenal now believe they are Rogers’ preferred destination, although Aston Villa are not looking to sell and would demand a fee comfortably in excess of £100 million before entering serious negotiations. Chelsea are also said to remain admirers, while Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool are all monitoring the situation.

Rogers’ rise has been remarkable to follow for Imps’ fans. He arrived at City from Manchester City in January 2021 and made an immediate impression under Michael Appleton, combining power, direct running and a willingness to take players on. He scored his first senior goal in a 1-0 win against Portsmouth later that month, a moment that hinted at the player he would go on to become.

His March form was particularly eye-catching, with three goals in seven matches helping him win the EFL Young Player of the Month award. By the end of his loan spell, Rogers had made 25 league appearances for the Imps, scoring six times, plus three further outings in the play-offs as City reached the League One final.

Notably, only a handful of people saw him at the Bank, as games were played behind closed doors, so while we missed out, he also didn’t get the same level of pressure that other young players, such as Morgan Whittaker, have faced.

After leaving Lincoln, Rogers had loan spells with Bournemouth and Blackpool before joining Middlesbrough in 2023. His time on Teesside proved to be the launchpad for a Premier League move, with Aston Villa signing him in February 2024 in a deal reported at £8 million, potentially rising to £15 million with add-ons.

Since then, Rogers has become one of Villa’s most valuable assets. He scored 14 goals in all competitions during the 2024/25 season, was named Aston Villa’s Young Player of the Season and went on to win the PFA Young Player of the Year award. He has also broken into the England senior side, making his debut in November 2024 and later scoring his first international goal against Wales.

Villa tied him down to a long-term contract until 2031, but that has not stopped speculation from building. Reports elsewhere have suggested Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have all shown interest. If a deal were to happen anywhere near the figures being discussed, it would mark another extraordinary chapter in Rogers’ career.
