Chris Cohen ‘did not expect anything less’ from Lincoln City fans, as more than 600 made the trip across the county to visit Boston United this weekend.
The Imps churned out a 1-0 win, but in the warm summer sun, with 22 different players, the game was a training session. It was played at a good pace, but the first game of pre-season is rarely a spectacle from which supporters can glean much.
We beat Boston 7-0 in the season they were promoted to the National League. We once beat Premier League Derby County 1-0, but we weren’t promoted at the end of the season. It’s not about performance, nor is it an indication of where we’ll be later in the season. It’s about minutes, training loads and fitness.
Despite that, City put in a decent display in front of 631 supporters. While that felt impressive for a pre-season game, it’s what the coaching staff have come to expect from a committed and passionate fanbase.
“A little bit like we were saying about the players, I was not expecting anything less,” Chris said, answering the first question I have ever asked at a post-match interview. “I did not expect anything less, to be honest with you.
“The supporters have been fantastic. They have stuck with us over the last few years. From my time being here, and from speaking to Tom about a longer period of time, whether it is good or bad, they turn up in their droves.

“It was lovely to see them again today and lovely to get another win in front of them. I am sure they were really excited to see the players again after a really successful season last year.
“It was a really good day and a really good turnout. We are really appreciative of their support as well.”
Even the warm weather training excursion to Spain is expected to draw up to 100 supporters, with the 617 once again making the trip, as well as pockets of other supporters wanting to see the Imps at the Pinatar Arena.
Leyton Orient will provide the opposition, and once again, Chris and Tom Shaw will get to put on a show for supporters. It is a little ironic that we played in upwards of 25 degrees yesterday, but we are flying to Spain to catch some sun, while the UK basks as well!
