Former Lincoln City academy midfielder Josh Blant has joined Lincoln United following his release from the Imps this summer.
The local youngster is one of two new arrivals confirmed by the Whites, with former Harrowby United player Lewis Marsh also agreeing terms with David Frecklington’s side. Both players featured against Lincoln City Under-18s at the weekend, having also been involved in United’s recent friendly against Basford United.
Blant had initially appeared as a trialist, wearing the number 15 shirt, before his identity and subsequent signing were confirmed. He joins United after spending a significant part of his development within Lincoln City’s academy system.
The midfielder entered the academy during the Foundation Phase and quickly impressed with his technical ability. As he progressed through the Youth Development Phase, he began to show an increasing ability to influence and control matches from the middle of the pitch.
Blant later moved into the club’s scholarship programme, although the final two years of his time with the Imps were disrupted by injury. A long-term problem meant he missed a large amount of football during the 2024/25 campaign, limiting his opportunities to continue the progress he had previously shown.
His injury troubles continued into the beginning of the following season, with Blant again sidelined during the early stages of 2025/26. He was able to work his way back towards fitness and began making his return later in the campaign, but was released by Lincoln City at the end of the season.
The move across the city will now offer him the chance to play regular senior football and rebuild momentum following a difficult period on the sidelines. His technical qualities and experience within a professional academy environment could make him a useful addition to Frecklington’s squad.
Marsh arrives with experience of the local non-league scene after previously playing for Harrowby United in Grantham. He was named the club’s Players’ Player of the Season for the 2024/25 campaign, having also served as vice-captain.
The pair agreed terms with Lincoln United over the past week and have already been given an opportunity to feature during pre-season. Their appearance against Lincoln City Under-18s offered Blant an immediate reunion with his former club as United continued preparations for the new campaign.
