Wolverhampton Wanderers Midfielder Set For Aston Villa Move
Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to lose João Gomes after Aston Villa reportedly agreed a £35 million deal for the Brazilian midfielder.
Gomes has left Wolves’ pre-season training camp and is expected to undergo a medical on Friday. The move would allow the 25-year-old to remain in the Premier League following Wolves’ relegation to the Championship at the end of last season.
Aston Villa have acted quickly after Youri Tielemans completed a £35 million transfer to Manchester United. They are now preparing to reinvest the same amount in Gomes, who has made 130 appearances for Wolves since arriving from Flamengo in January 2023.
The proposed transfer follows the collapse of a move to Atlético Madrid. Gomes had been expected to join the Spanish club for a fee closer to £39 million, but that deal was called off and Villa have taken advantage of the situation.
He made 114 Premier League appearances during his time at Molineux and remained one of Wolves’ more consistent performers during their relegation campaign. His departure would therefore leave another sizeable gap in a squad already adjusting to life outside the top flight.
