Championship Latest: Wolves Prepare For £35m Exit, Bolton Wanderers Trial International Striker

Championship Clubs Monitor Charlton Athletic Captain

Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers are reportedly monitoring the future of Charlton Athletic captain Greg Docherty.

Leicester City and clubs from Major League Soccer are also believed to be watching developments as the midfielder enters the final 12 months of his contract at The Valley.

Docherty is understood to be happy at Charlton and open to discussing fresh terms. However, his current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2027, creating a situation that could attract offers if an extension is not agreed.

According to reports in Scotland, Blackburn and Bolton are among the clubs ready to move if the 29-year-old becomes available. Both are preparing for Championship football, while Leicester will be looking to rebuild following relegation to League One.

Docherty joined Charlton in 2024 after leaving Hull City and has since become an important figure under Nathan Jones. He captained the Addicks during their promotion from League One and remained central to the side as they retained their Championship status last season.

The Scotland midfielder has made more than 400 senior appearances, with previous spells at Hamilton Academical, Rangers, Shrewsbury Town and Hull. His work rate, leadership and experience across the EFL would make him an attractive option for several clubs.

Charlton remain in a strong position because Docherty is settled and still under contract. They are not currently being forced into a sale, but interest from divisional rivals may encourage them to accelerate negotiations over a new deal.
