The Championship season has not even started, but one of the division’s biggest clubs is reportedly dealing with a remarkable training-ground dispute. Wolverhampton Wanderers Training Cancelled After Player Dispute
Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly cancelled a first-team training session following a disagreement involving striker Tolu Arokodare.
The Nigerian forward is understood to have been informed by new Wolves head coach César Peixoto that he was not part of his plans at Molineux. Arokodare allegedly refused to leave when asked, meaning the club were unable to continue with the planned session.
According to the initial report, training was eventually abandoned. Additional security was also said to have been present at the club’s Compton Park base on Wednesday.
Arokodare joined Wolves from Belgian side Genk in September 2025 and scored six times in 32 appearances across all competitions during his first season in England. The 25-year-old had previously finished as the leading scorer in Belgium during the 2024/25 campaign, striking 21 league goals for Genk.
His future now appears uncertain as Peixoto reshapes a squad relegated from the Premier League last season. João Gomes has already left for Aston Villa, although former Wolves striker Raúl Jiménez has returned and experienced defender Kieran Trippier has also moved to Molineux.
The reported incident is hardly the ideal start to preparations for a promotion challenge. Wolves will be expected to compete towards the top of the Championship, but Peixoto must first resolve a difficult situation involving a player contracted to the club until 2029.
