‘We Know It’s Coming’ – Chris Cohen On Upcoming Lincoln City Signings

Lincoln City head coach Chris Cohen has said that transfers are coming, but the squad will be added to over the next couple of weeks.

Speaking after the pre-season game against Grimsby, Chris was asked about Ron Fowler’s backing, following the club-record capture of former AC Milan defender Andre Coubis, who arrived last week.

“He’s backing us,” said Chris. “There are lots of fans hoping for more signings over the next few days and weeks, and we know it’s coming.”

It has been suggested on social media that those signings might be over the next couple of days, but my understanding is we’re looking to have extra bodies in by the time we play Derby County in the cup.

However, transfers take time, and while Jez George wasn’t at the game last night, he was out trying to secure a deal for a player, as he seems to be every day during this busy period. That’s something Chris trusts to happen.

“We absolutely trust the processes of the football club. Ron’s backed us already in terms of loads of other bits, not just players coming in, and we know he’s going to do the same over the next few weeks.

“Just because we’ve lost the game, we’ve got a brilliant group already. We’re just hoping to add some volume to the number of players that we’ve got over the next few weeks.

“I know Jez and Liam are working incredibly hard to make that happen.”

Callum Elder and Joe Gauci, two more new signings, made appearances last night, while former Wigan Athletic midfielder Matt Smith also put in an energetic display in midfield as part of his trial with the club.

The expectation is that we’ll be adding to the front line, something we certainly need given Ben House’s absence from last night’s fixture, as well as James Collins’ long-term injury. With Alfie Lloyd and Ryan Oné returning to their parent clubs last season, that’s the area of the field fans are eager to see arrivals.

Given that we seem to be hunting Premier League loans and still talk about making purchases for significant fees, fans can be excited, despite what happened on the field against the Mariners.
