Cardiff City are reportedly closing in on a move for Lincoln City midfielder Jack Moylan, in what would be another significant summer departure for the Imps.
According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, the Championship side are poised to complete a deal for the 24-year-old after his outstanding campaign in red and white. There is no indication of a fee at this stage.
Moylan joined Lincoln from Shelbourne in January 2024 and has developed into one of the club’s most influential players. Last season he was instrumental as the Imps won the League One title, contributing 11 goals and six assists while becoming the creative heartbeat of the side.
His performances also earned him senior international recognition with the Republic of Ireland during the summer, underlining just how far his stock has risen since arriving at Sincil Bank.
The reported interest comes during a summer of significant change for Lincoln. Promotion to the Championship has inevitably attracted attention from clubs operating with larger budgets, and one of those is Cardiff City, despite them finishing below us last season.
Should Moylan complete a move to Cardiff, it would leave the Imps searching for a replacement capable of replicating his creativity, eye for goal and ability to unlock defences from an advanced midfield role at a late stage of pre-season.
Brian Barry-Murphy’s side eventually finished second behind the Imps to secure an immediate return to the Championship. His possession-based style appears well suited to Moylan’s technical qualities. Comfortable receiving the ball in tight areas and capable of producing moments of quality in the final third, the Irishman fits the profile of player Cardiff have targeted under their current manager.
Any deal would represent another reminder of the challenge newly promoted clubs face in retaining their best talent. Moylan arrived with an impressive reputation from Ireland, but his development over the past two-and-a-half years has exceeded expectations, establishing himself as one of League One’s standout performers.
At the time of writing, neither club has confirmed an agreement, and the financial details of any potential transfer remain unclear. However, with reports suggesting a deal is close, Imps supporters may now be preparing to say goodbye to one of the key figures behind last season’s title-winning campaign.
