Lincoln United returned to league action with an impressive away victory at Stocksbridge Park Steels, while Brigg Town maintained their outstanding start to the season with another win and a sixth successive clean sheet.
Molyneaux Double Secures United Victory
Lincoln United travelled to Stocksbridge looking to put their FA Cup defeat at the weekend behind them and continue their encouraging start to the league season. Stocksbridge had scored in all but one of their previous matches, suggesting the Whites could face a difficult evening, but United controlled much of the contest and came away with all three points.
The visitors started on the front foot and almost scored with their first attack. They continued to dominate the opening exchanges and had the ball in the net in the 13th minute, only for the goal to be disallowed following a foul during a scramble inside the goalmouth.
United did not have to wait much longer for the breakthrough. Rio Molyneaux opened the scoring three minutes later before doubling the advantage almost immediately. Tom Ward supplied the pass and Molyneaux latched onto it before finding the net for his and United’s second goal of the evening.
Lincoln remained in control for the rest of the first half, although their goalkeeper was required to produce an important save to preserve the two-goal advantage before the interval. The Whites managed the second half well and created opportunities to extend their lead, but the two first-half goals proved sufficient to secure a 2-0 victory.
It was an accomplished response to the weekend’s disappointment and ensured United remained among the sides challenging towards the top of the table.

Brigg Extend Winning Run
Brigg Town went into their home fixture against Harrogate Railway full of confidence. They sat at the top of the table after an excellent start to the campaign and had recorded five consecutive clean sheets before kick-off.
The hosts immediately took control and almost opened the scoring after only two minutes when Fleming’s header crashed against the upright. Their pressure eventually told in the 19th minute as a pass split the Harrogate defence and released Dayle Hutson. Faced with the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation, Hutson calmly placed his finish into the bottom corner.
Brigg created further opportunities before the interval but were unable to add to their lead, leaving the game finely balanced at 1-0. They continued to play on the front foot during the second half, however, and finally gave themselves some breathing space in the 78th minute when Lewis Collins made it 2-0.
Drury added a third goal just four minutes later before Josh Batty completed the scoring in the 91st minute. The 4-0 victory maintained Brigg’s position at the top of the table and extended their run to six consecutive matches without conceding.
It was another excellent result for the management team, while a sixth successive clean sheet ensured the home supporters left with growing expectations for the season ahead.
