The Ugly: Ethan Erhahon
Ethan Erhahon joined Lincoln from St Mirren in January 2023 and immediately looked capable of playing above League One. He made his debut in a 3-0 win at Accrington Stanley and soon became central to the way we played, providing composure and control at the base of midfield. His outstanding solo goal against Blackpool was an early highlight, while his importance to the side was underlined when his teammates named him Players’ Player of the Season for 2023/24.
Erhahon made 93 league appearances for City, scoring twice, but his final months at the club left some supporters feeling jaded. He spoke openly about wanting a move after he left and, although there was nothing unreasonable about an ambitious player wishing to test himself at a higher level, hearing it said publicly changed the mood around him. There had already been Championship interest, so many assumed that his eventual departure would bring City a substantial return.
Instead, Erhahon joined Bolton Wanderers in July 2025 for a fee reported to be £750,000. That was still a profit on a player City had developed over two and a half years, but it felt below the value many supporters had placed on one of League One’s most accomplished midfielders. Bolton subsequently won promotion through the play-offs, giving Erhahon the Championship move he had wanted. There is little ugly about his contribution on the pitch, but the public desire to leave and the sense that City did not receive his full value made the ending far less satisfying than the performances that came before it.
