Lille are reportedly closing in on an agreement to sign Burnley forward Zian Flemming before the summer transfer window closes.
The Ligue 1 club are now in advanced talks over the 28-year-old after refusing to abandon their pursuit when earlier offers were rejected. Burnley have been reluctant to lose Flemming following their relegation from the Premier League. The Clarets are also protected by a contract running until 2029, leaving them in a strong negotiating position and under no pressure to accept a reduced offer.
However, Lille’s persistence appears to have brought the two clubs closer together. Burnley could now decide that a substantial fee represents the right outcome, particularly if Flemming makes it clear that he wants to leave Turf Moor.
Lille Move Ahead Of Premier League Rivals
Flemming enhanced his reputation during Burnley’s 2025/26 Premier League campaign, scoring 11 goals in 29 league appearances. He finished the season as the club’s leading scorer and was named Burnley’s Player of the Season, despite being unable to prevent their return to the Championship.
Those performances attracted interest from clubs in England and elsewhere in Europe. Everton and Leeds United have both been linked with the Dutchman, but Lille have emerged as the leading contenders after making repeated attempts to secure his signature.
Everton are said to have cooled their interest, allowing Lille to move into a commanding position. The French club reportedly believe Flemming could be their player by 1 September, provided the final gap between their proposal and Burnley’s asking price can be closed.
The attacker is also understood to favour a departure from Burnley. Moving to Lille would allow him to continue playing in one of Europe’s leading divisions rather than spending the campaign in the Championship.
Proven Record In England
Flemming arrived in English football when Millwall signed him from Fortuna Sittard in June 2022. He scored 22 league goals during his two seasons at The Den and was voted the Lions’ Player of the Season following his debut campaign.
Burnley recruited him on loan in August 2024, with the agreement including an obligation to make the transfer permanent. Flemming scored 12 Championship goals as the Clarets earned promotion, before his permanent arrival was confirmed in May 2025.
He has continued to deliver since Burnley returned to the second tier, recording three goals across his opening two appearances of the current season. Lille must now reach an agreement with the Clarets if they are to complete what would be a significant late-window deal.
