Swansea City are reportedly close to completing the permanent signing of Huddersfield Town midfielder Tom Iorpenda.
The Swans are closing in on a deal for the highly-rated 21-year-old, who spent last season helping Notts County secure promotion from League Two.
Swansea are expected to pay an initial £750,000 for Iorpenda, with a further £250,000 potentially due through add-ons. Should each of those clauses be activated, the overall value of the transfer would reach £1 million.
Swansea Address Midfield Requirement
Adding another central midfielder has been an important part of Swansea’s recruitment plans following the departure of Ethan Galbraith to Stoke City. Malick Yalcouye also returned to Brighton and Hove Albion after his loan spell, leaving spaces to be filled within the squad.
Swansea previously pursued Andre Almeida and Ousseynou Fall Seck without completing deals for either player. They subsequently secured Stephen Eustaquio from FC Porto and are now moving to supplement that signing with Iorpenda’s arrival.
The Huddersfield player would join following an impressive campaign at Notts County. He made 53 appearances in all competitions as the Magpies won promotion and contributed three goals and seven assists.
His performances earned recognition from both the club and its supporters. Iorpenda collected Notts County’s Players’ Player of the Season and Fans’ Player of the Season awards, while one of his efforts was also selected as their Goal of the Season.
Iorpenda Ready For Championship Step
Iorpenda began his development with Brighton before joining Huddersfield in 2021. He signed his first professional contract the following year and later agreed an extension running until 2027.
The midfielder gained his first experience of senior football during a short loan with Hyde United in 2023. He subsequently made his Huddersfield debut as a substitute against Manchester City in the FA Cup in January 2024 and has recorded 15 senior appearances for the Terriers across all competitions.
A successful season with Notts County provided Iorpenda with regular football and demonstrated his ability to influence games at League Two level. Swansea are now prepared to give him an opportunity in the Championship as they continue reshaping their squad.
The proposed move comes during an encouraging start to the campaign for Matos’ side. Swansea have collected seven points from their opening three matches after beating Derby County 3-0, and Iorpenda’s expected arrival would add further momentum before the transfer window closes.
