Head coach Tom Shaw has suggested Lincoln City could still do business this transfer window, despite recently signing Mikkel Ladefoged.
The Imps have been busy over the last couple of weeks, bringing in a handful of new signings, but as yet, only one has started a league game: Callum Elder on Saturday.
With a schedule that now sees us play Saturday and Tuesday up to the international break, a deep squad is important, and given the recent injury to Tedayi Darikwa, fans have wondered if there might be more business.
We’ve been linked with Hellas Verona defender Daniel Oyegoke, and while Tom wasn’t responding directly to that rumour, he did suggest we’re not quite done yet.
“We think there might be a couple of bits, yeah,” he said, when asked about possible deals in Monday’s press conference.
“We’re keeping our eyes and ears open to everything right up until the close of the window.
“As we’ve shown with the game at Blackpool and then on Saturday, there’s huge depth to our squad. There’s going to be incredible competition, and myself and Chris have a tough job picking a team every week, which is how we want it.
“We’ll keep our ears open to what’s available. There’ll be loads of movement, especially in this division, right up until the death, so we’re definitely keen to maybe do one or two more bits.”
The transfer deadline is Tuesday 1st September at 11 pm, frustratingly on a match day, but as Tom explained, gone are the days when the coaches are too involved in those deals at a late stage.
“I think our part in that, for myself and Chris, will be done by probably lunchtime tomorrow. We’ll focus on the game from that point, but I imagine the club will go to the wire with it if needed.
“We’re hoping to have any business done before that, but there’ll be people all over anything that needs doing in the final stages of the window.”
That doesn’t mean any players will be done and dusted by midday. While the head coaches might know who is expected and what could happen, fans may have to stay up long after the game against Tony Mowbray’s side has finished to get the latest updates.
“I think we’ll be pretty much in the know by lunchtime tomorrow about what’s going on. There might be a few bits to do contractually and other things, but our focus will be on Blackburn Rovers.”
The Imps have added eight new players this summer, three permanent and five loans. They are Mikkel Ladefoged (Västerås SK), Andrei Coubiș (Universitatea Cluj), and Callum Elder (Derby County) permanently, while Yunus Konak (Brentford), Joe Gauci (Aston Villa), Mason Melia (Tottenham Hotspur U21), Tanto Olaofe (Charlton Athletic), and Ethan Wheatley (Manchester United) have joined on loan.
