Championship Latest – Burnley Exit, Sheffield United Frustration And Portsmouth’s £1m Mistake

Wilder Calls For Faith After Sheffield United Defeat

Chris Wilder has urged Sheffield United supporters to show more faith after a late Wolves winner condemned his side to a 1-0 defeat at Bramall Lane.

The Blades had kept the visitors largely quiet in the second half and appeared on course for a point, only to concede in the closing stages. Wilder felt the performance merited a result, although he acknowledged his side had failed to turn promising attacking positions into sufficiently clear chances.

Speaking to SUTV after the game, he defended both his own record and the players as he addressed frustration over their start to the campaign:

“People need to show a little bit more faith in what we’re trying to achieve,” Wilder said. “I’m not a rookie manager, I’ve been around the Championship for a long time. My record’s pretty decent.

“It’s been a difficult start to the season, everybody understands, but we have a really good group of honest players.”

Wilder also accepted that his side should have had a player in position to deal with the cutback which led to the winner. Attention now turns to a midweek League Cup trip to Fleetwood Town, followed by an away league fixture at Stoke City.
