Burnley Chief Executive Leaves After Little Over A Year
Burnley chief executive James Holroyd has left his role after little over a year, with the Burnley Express reporting that the decision to move on was his own.
Holroyd’s appointment was announced in April 2025, shortly after the Clarets secured promotion to the Premier League, and he began work that summer. His responsibilities covered the commercial side of the club, including brand development, innovation, supporter engagement and international growth.
He arrived with considerable experience, having spent 14 years at Adidas and another 14 at Manchester United, where he rose to become chief commercial development officer. Chairman Alan Pace had spoken enthusiastically about the appointment at the time:
“His track record speaks for itself, having been at the heart of some of the biggest commercial and cultural success stories in world football.
“But just as importantly, he shares our values, our hunger to innovate and our belief in football as a force for good.”
The departure has not been formally announced by Burnley. The report states that Holroyd left last week, bringing an early end to an appointment intended to help drive the club’s ambitions away from the pitch.
