Chris Cohen believes Lincoln City can make life difficult for Swansea City on Saturday, with the joint head coach backing the Imps to carry our recent momentum into the final game before the international break.
Swansea arrive having made a strong start to the campaign, and Cohen is expecting a demanding afternoon against a side he described as a “top team”.
Chris and Tom still had work to do on the opposition when he spoke ahead of the fixture, but his early assessment was of a team whose form has carried over from the closing months of last season.
“They’re a top team,” he said in this morning’s press conference.
“The manager’s gone in there, and obviously they’ve hit a run of form over the last few months, started the season incredibly well. The bits we’ve seen so far, and a lot more to do over the next couple of days, but they look like a really difficult team to play against.”
“But as we always say, we know the way that we play, and we’ve shown that in the last few games, that when we hit our flow, we’re pretty hard to stop.”
It is an encouraging message ahead of another Championship test. City will always need to understand the visitors’ threats, but Chris’s comments suggest there is every reason to approach the afternoon with confidence in the things we do well. After five games unbeaten, it’s hard to argue otherwise.
Chris also pointed to the role supporters can play, recalling the backing against Southampton and the way the atmosphere helped drive us forward despite being behind. That support made a tangible contribution to the momentum that eventually brought Mikkel Ladefoged his goal.
“It’ll be massively important. I remember the fans’ backing from the Southampton game, the noise was incredible, absolutely incredible, even when we were 1-0 down, and definitely it played a major part in that momentum shift towards the end of the game that ended up getting Mikkel his goal, and they’ll be needed as always on Saturday afternoon.”
The challenge now is to produce that combination again: a performance on the pitch that gives us something to get behind, and backing from the stands that holds firm when Swansea have their moments.
We have another difficult opponent coming to Sincil Bank, but Chris clearly believes we have the tools to give them a difficult afternoon ourselves. After doing just that against the Saints, as well as getting three 1-0 wins on the bounce, there is no reason not to have a degree of confidence.
