Swansea City are waiting on the fitness of Josh Key ahead of Saturday’s visit to Sincil Bank.
The 26-year-old defender came off at half-time during their 3-1 win against Burnley last weekend with a hamstring issue. He has not trained since, with head coach Vitor Matos confirming there is still a decision to be made before the Swans face us in their final fixture before the international break.
Speaking to Swansea’s website, Matos explained that Key remains under assessment, with one more training session available before the game.
“Josh is still being assessed to see how he is at the moment.
“It’s still open and we have one more training session left before the next game, so we will see how that goes.”
Key has been doing specific work away from training, although Swansea are awaiting another scan before determining whether he can feature against the Imps. Matos otherwise reported no fresh concerns within his available squad.
“He hasn’t been training, but he’s been doing specific work to help him. We are awaiting one more scan to determine the outcome.
“Everyone else is looking okay for the weekend.”
Key began his career in Torquay United’s youth setup before moving to Exeter City following the closure of the Gulls’ academy in 2015. After loan spells with Bideford and Tiverton Town, he established himself at Exeter, making 148 appearances and helping them win promotion to League One in 2022. He joined Swansea in July 2023 and has since made more than 100 league appearances for the Welsh club.
Ross Stewart is another who will miss out, with his return expected after the international break. Best known for his goals at Sunderland, the striker scored in their 2022 League One play-off final victory over Wycombe Wanderers before moving to Southampton in 2023. His rise took him from Scottish junior football to the Scotland national side.
An Achilles injury keeps Cameron Burgess sidelined, leaving Swansea without a defender whose career has included spells at Fulham, Scunthorpe United and Accrington Stanley. Four years at Ipswich followed before the Australian international headed to South Wales in June 2025.
Goncalo Franco, however, is back in contention after returning against Burnley. Swansea brought the midfielder over from Moreirense in 2024, following a spell that yielded nine goals in 129 appearances for the Portuguese club. Having started out at Leixoes and represented Portugal at under-20 level, he now gives Matos another midfield option for the trip to Sincil Bank.
