Former Lincoln City midfielder Ethan Erhahon is reportedly attracting interest from both Scotland and Nigeria as the two countries look to secure his international future.
According to Football Insider, the 25-year-old’s performances for Bolton Wanderers have prompted both nations to pursue him. The report claims the Scottish FA are attempting to convince him to commit his senior international future to Scotland, with Nigeria also keen to bring him into their setup.
Erhahon was born in Glasgow and is of Nigerian descent, giving him a connection to both countries. He has already represented Scotland at several youth levels, including the U21s, but a senior opportunity would mark another significant step in his career.
The interest follows Bolton’s promotion from League One last season, with Ethan continuing to feature regularly since their move into the Championship. Football Insider reports that he has started six of their opening eight league matches, scored once and recorded a pass completion rate of 90 per cent.
He has remained with Bolton during the current international break, although the report suggests November could bring a different situation. At this stage, it is reported interest rather than a confirmed call-up, with a decision over which country to represent still to be made.
For Imps supporters, the prospect of Ethan playing senior international football is unlikely to come as a huge surprise. His ability to receive possession under pressure and keep the ball moving was a major part of his appeal here, and those qualities always gave him a chance of progressing beyond League One.
We signed him from St Mirren in January 2023 for an undisclosed fee, and he went on to make 107 appearances in all competitions for City. His influence was recognised with our Players’ Player of the Season award in 2023/24, before he joined Bolton in July 2025 on a four-year deal.
There is also a potential financial angle for City, although it is important to be clear about what is known. International recognition is often included among the add-ons negotiated in transfer deals, with payments dependent on the precise terms agreed, such as a senior debut or a set number of appearances.
However, there has been no confirmation that our deal with Bolton includes an international clause, or that an Erhahon call-up would bring any additional money to Sincil Bank. It is a possibility worth acknowledging, but there is no basis for counting it as a future payment to the Imps.
Regardless of any contractual detail, a senior call-up would be another milestone for a player whose development we watched closely for two and a half seasons. Ethan has already made the step into Championship football, and the reported interest suggests his next opportunity could come on the international stage.
