Lee Frecklington
Watching Tom Bayliss now is a reminder of how valuable it is to have a midfielder who can change a game without compromising on work rate or commitment. Lee Frecklington had that combination, and I could happily picture him alongside Conor McGrandles or Ivan Varfolomeev, helping dictate play and finding his way out of tight spaces. He could play a lovely ball, but he also offered a threat going forward, with elements of the attacking contribution we enjoyed from Jack Moylan last season. There was much more to him than simply being a willing runner.
As much as I loved the Frecklington we had in 2006/07, the version I’d bring back would be the Rotherham midfielder with Championship experience behind him. By then, he’d added years of playing higher up the ladder to the qualities we’d already seen, and he had proved he could be an important player at this level. I’m thinking of Freck a year or two before his return to Sincil Bank, with that experience and ability to influence games.
That Lee Frecklington would drop into this side in a heartbeat.
