Charlton Athletic Boss Explains Burnley Celebration
Nathan Jones has explained his celebrations after Charlton Athletic snatched a late draw at Burnley. The Addicks manager said his reaction was directed at a supporter who had been abusing him from behind the dugout.
Ivan Mesík equalised with virtually the final kick of the game, prompting Jones to hang off the dugout and respond towards the Bob Lord Stand. Asked about his emotions after the goal, he made clear why he had reacted that way.
“Well I was getting dog’s abuse from one individual behind, so I just wanted to let them know that it’s never over.”
Jones felt Charlton had created enough clear chances to win and praised their passing and control of the game. He pointed to expected goals and touches in the opposition box as supporting his assessment, but was frustrated by both their finishing and the goals they conceded.
“We worked hard, we’re playing an ex-Premier League team and I’m really proud of the performance, I’m just disappointed with certain moments.”
“It’s a positive point but there will be a tinge of disappointment that we haven’t won it.”
