Watford Keep Faith With Alessio Dionisi After Heavy Defeats

Watford are reportedly sticking with Alessio Dionisi despite dropping into the Championship relegation zone. According to a report from GiveMeSport, the Italian retains owner Gino Pozzo’s support and will take charge against Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

The Hornets have won just two of their opening ten league matches, with Tuesday’s 5-1 defeat at Cardiff City sending them into the bottom three. That followed a 4-0 loss to Burnley at the weekend, meaning they have conceded nine goals across their last two games.

Dionisi only arrived in the summer, but supporters were heard chanting “sacked in the morning” during the Burnley defeat. The report says Watford recognise they have acted too quickly with previous managers and are taking his lengthy injury list into account, with the club having employed 25 different managers since the Pozzo family took over in 2012.

Speaking after the Cardiff game, Dionisi said he wanted to remain in charge for the Charlton fixture. He also insisted he was ready to take responsibility and continue working with his squad.

“I speak with my owner every day. I have a good relationship with my director and owner, but this is football.”

“I want to take responsibility, I want to work with my players because, for me, it’s possible to arrive at good results together.”
