The Bad: Ali Fuseini
Ali Fuseini had made 76 league appearances for Millwall, so it seemed safe to assume he’d know his way around a football pitch. Steve Tilson brought him in at the end of January 2011, and his debut came in our 2-1 win at Bradford. Initially, he looked like he might bring something to the party, with a nice touch and the ability to spot a pass.
From there, it went downhill. His lightweight, often absent midfield play wasn’t what we needed in a relegation battle, and he featured plenty without contributing anything like enough. I had to check whether he played in that final match against Aldershot because I couldn’t remember him doing so. He did, for the record, meaning he played a part in one of the worst days of my life.
His only Imps goal came the following season, a header past Paul Farman in a 1-0 win against Gateshead. All that supposed talent, and his one goal came off his head. Tilson’s departure effectively signalled the end, and Fuseini left by mutual consent in November 2011 after 35 appearances.
He later helped Bromley do the double over us in 2015/16, although thankfully he didn’t score, which was at least one small mercy.
