Lincoln City have triggered a one-year extension in Adam Reach’s contract, keeping him at Sincil Bank until the summer of 2028.
33-year-old Reach joined City in September 2025 and wasted little time making an impression, providing the assist for Sonny Bradley’s opener against Notts County on his debut. His first goal followed with a direct free-kick in the 3-0 victory at Peterborough United, while his right-footed volley against Barnsley earned December’s Goal of the Month award.
City had already exercised an earlier option in January, extending his original deal through to the summer of 2027. This latest decision adds another season to the stay of a player who scored our first second-tier goal in 65 years against his former club Middlesbrough in August.
Sporting director Jez George explained that Reach’s contribution extends beyond his performances on matchdays. With Tendayi Darikwa sidelined through a long-term injury, his place within the squad’s experienced core has taken on particular significance.

“It is really important that we keep a balance within the squad of young players with high potential, players approaching and in their prime and then a senior leadership group.
“Adam is crucial in that group of experienced players, especially with the long-term injury to Tendayi, and formalising his contract extension was fair to Adam and right for our long-term planning. There is always a perception of how players regress physically with age, but Adam’s sprint and high-speed running distances per game continue to be consistently impressive at the top of our squad. This data is more important to us than the date on his birth certificate.
“Add to that Adam’s undoubted quality, and influence off the pitch, then this is a decision that makes total sense for us and him.”
An England youth international, Reach came through Middlesbrough’s academy and scored on his senior debut in 2011, gaining further experience through loans at Darlington, Shrewsbury Town, Bradford City and Preston North End. Sheffield Wednesday paid a reported £5 million for him in 2016, and he made 209 league appearances across five seasons at Hillsborough, winning their Player of the Year award in 2017/18. Three seasons at West Bromwich Albion followed, before a short spell with Wycombe Wanderers in 2025 preceded his arrival at City.
