Burnley could learn a lot about how to run a football club from Lincoln City, according to Not The Top 20 pundit George Elek.
After our 4-1 win this weekend, Elek was full of praise, as he always is, about our achievements. Winning 4-1 was a milestone moment for City fans, but Elek believes we’ll be well clear of relegation come the end of the season, no matter what bigger clubs think of teams like Lincoln.
“We said it all season, any fan of Preston or Derby or Watford or Burnley who thinks that one of the relegation spots is destined for Lincoln City has to think again,” he said on the latest episdoe of the show.
“Because unless they get much, much worse for whatever reason, they are not going to get relegated. They are a mid-table team at worst, which isn’t a surprise given they got 103 points last season.”
While he admitted things can change, and at Lincoln, we’re all pessimists at heart, he believes that our start merely reflects how well-run we are as a club, from top to bottom, with a clear direction.
“It’s the end of October, things can change,” added Elek.
“Lincoln City’s start to the season is a huge achievement in terms of showing what can be possible with clear thinking, clear strategy, and it doesn’t always take loads of money.
“And you look at Burnley, you know, they could probably learn quite a lot from the team that beat them 4-1 on Saturday.”

As they prepare to appoint a coach who lasted a couple of months at CSKA Moscow, it could be that Burnley have not learned a huge amount at all. Meanwhile, we lost Michael Skubala and Jack Moylan over the summer, and have come back stronger, something not many expected.
“Again, at this point it’s worth just reconsidering the fact that they replaced their manager who got poached with the two assistants,” added Alim Maxwell.
“And a joint managerial reign is not something that we see very often in English football, and probably if you scratch the surface, you wouldn’t say there’s been many great success stories.”
If Lincoln City finish 21st this season, then Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw will be a success story, and currently, the signs are looking good for those on the outside looking in.
