Lincoln City keeper George Wickens has labelled the 617 Squadron, City’s fan group, as brilliant ahead of their celebrations this weekend.

While Wickens clocks up 100 appearances for the Imps, the 617 are celebrating 15 years since seven fans joined together on the sparse terraces of the National League. This weekend, they’re celebrating that milestone at the ground at a ticketed event with bands and a DJ, before an after-party at the excellent Treaty of Commerce.

Speaking to the Stacey West in this afternoon’s press conference, Wickens described the 617 as brilliant, citing the support given as we were 5-0 down against West Ham as a classic example.

“They’re brilliant,” said the former Fulham man.

“I think they’re also very understanding compared to a lot of fanbases. The way they were at West Ham was incredible. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing at 5-0 down.

“They were top. They spur us on massively in good moments and bad moments, us as players apprecite that.

“We’re very happy they cheer us on the way they do, and we have a lot of respect for them for that.

This weekend they’ll once again be in a great mood given their celebrations after the game, and George expects them to be louder than usual as those 15 years of support are acknowledged by the wider fanbase.

“I think it’s 15 years, isn’t it, like you said? I’m sure they’ll be even louder than normal on Saturday, and we look forward to hearing it.”

If you haven’t booked your place yet, tickets for the anniversary celebrations are available here. Stone Cold Sweethearts, State of Mind and DJ Karma (my good friend, Tuppers) will provide the music in the Sincil Bank Fanzone, with guest speakers and presentations also planned before the celebrations continue at the Treaty of Commerce.

Capacity is limited and advance booking is required, so get yourselves along and help mark 15 years of the 617 backing the Imps through thick and thin.
