Thanks / No Thanks: Bury

No Thanks:  Paul Morgan

Wait what, another no thanks? I’m afraid so. I was going to thank them for Mike Pollitt, but I’ve also got the words Battersby, Grobbelaar and Lenny John-Lewis written down. There’s not a lot to thank Bury for but I certainly won’t be giving them any gratitude for taking Paul Morgan from us.

In my opinion, Morgan is still the finest centre back I’ve seen in a Lincoln City shirt. his application over a significant period of time was absolutely excellent and had he been two inches taller he would have been like a dodgy curry; a threat at both ends. He wasn’t though, which restricted him to defensive duties which he performed diligently.

He was the key behind the 2002/03 success. The other players in that defence we either limited (Futcher & Weaver) or just committed as hell (Bailey and Bimson), but Morgan was the brains. He watched the game, saw the openings and ensured Mazza had as little to do as possible. If you never saw him play, you missed out.

When he left us, he did so for Bury and for a short while, it broke my heart. I still miss Paul Morgan.

  1. True, Morgan was as cultured a centre back as I have seen here in 60 years. Though Ray Harford ran him close (joke!)
