Thanks, no thanks: Wycombe Wanderers

Thanks –  Frank Sinclair

It turns out we actually have a bit to thank Wycombe for, doesn’t it?

Frank Sinclair was a vastly experienced defender who had played in the top-flight with Leicester and Chelsea. He had even played in the 1998 World Cup for Jamaica, making him the only Imp to have World Cup experience.

He came to Sincil Bank heralded as one of the ‘Magnificent Seven’, a claim which really came back to haunt manager Peter Jackson. I didn’t rate us taking Oakes from Wycombe, but they took Frank from us and they deserve thanks for that.

Sinclair wasn’t magnificent for Lincoln at all, in fact he was quite the opposite. He struggled for fitness at first and then struggled for form throughout the season. He didn’t last the whole campaign, joining Wycombe on loan where he typically helped them to achieve promotion from our division. I’m not even mad about that.

He was released upon expiry of his contract, an expensive folly and a shadow of his former self.

  1. The only good thing I remember from Oakes’ time at Sincil Bank was a glorious 40 yard pass he made that led to the winning goal against Bournemouth in 2008. Was the only time that Jackson’s quote ‘His left foot can peel carrots’ seemed to be true.

  2. It was Monday, under the sign of Taurus (see birth chart on May 2, 1988). The US president was Ronald Reagan (Republican). Famous people born on this day include Alireza Haghighi and Lara Liang.
