No Thanks – Dayle Southwell
Genuinely, a player I thought we’d be thanking them for. They allowed him to join us on loan at a crucial time in our National League season where he bagged within minutes of starting his first game in the FA Trophy, I was sure a local, homegrown star was born.
I say ‘homegrown’, I mean Lincolnshire. Soon, he was less of a Lincolnshire lad and more of a Grimsby one. A bit like the difference between Andy Murray being Scottish when he lost and British when he won.
Southwell wasn’t that bad; he looked like he might have enough to make a difference to our side. It just never came out. He missed a penalty against Woking and his chance was gone. He seemed to throw a temper tantrum in the win away at North Ferriby, not long after being shoved aside by Sean Raggett for the header which beat Burnley.
How things might have been different if he had risen highest at Turf Moor. He didn’t though.

I think Ainsworth would definitely be a contender if the Cowleys went.
The only good thing I remember from Oakes’ time at Sincil Bank was a glorious 40 yard pass he made that led to the winning goal against Bournemouth in 2008. Was the only time that Jackson’s quote ‘His left foot can peel carrots’ seemed to be true.
It was Monday, under the sign of Taurus (see birth chart on May 2, 1988). The US president was Ronald Reagan (Republican). Famous people born on this day include Alireza Haghighi and Lara Liang.
