Ledson is currently with Preston North End in the Championship and is a former England Under 20 midfielder. He came through the ranks at Everton before opting to join Oxford United. He’s not been playing lots of football for Preston, four appearances this season, two of which were starts in the EFL Cup.
Ledson is a central midfielder, not unlike Joe Morrell and Callum Connolly. He’s comfortable in possession and played 30 games under Appleton in the 2016/17 season. It was a fruitful move for Ledson, he won the EFL Player of the Month and praised Appleton’s influence after the risk he took moving from Everton.
“I spoke to him in the summer before I signed and everything he said then, he’s stuck to,” Ledson said of Appleton at the time.
He was desperately unlucky to miss the Under 20 World Cup that England won but his injury perhaps cleared the way for Callum Connolly to join the squad.
Much would depend on how he performs for Preston this season, but if he remains on the periphery then you just never know.
