Lincoln City’s First £1m Player – Previous Candidates

Sean Raggett

You can almost, almost, say the same things about Raggs as I did about Alex. After all, who will pay £1m for a League Two defender?

Nobody, but try telling that to Imps fans who got to watch Raggett every week. His goals, his commitment and his sheer aggression helped us win the National League, and helped establish us as a force in League Two. His exploits against Burnley obviously caught the eye, but scouts look beyond headlines and Raggs was hot property. I believe, had he not got injured during his Norwich stint, he could have gone on to earn then a million and maybe us with the upfront fee and any sell on taken into account. Even if he’d gone out on loan to Rotherham and stayed fit, he might well have impressed enough there to increase in value.

Sadly, that is all after the fact and is he had moved up, our fee might have been topped up. As it happened, he didn’t and we had to settle for the rumoured £300,000 that constituted his minimum release clause. Top player though, driven, determined and a key factor in our rise form the depths of despair.

Why not head over to our forum and discuss my picks, and maybe suggest some of your own?
