They Played For Both – Doncaster Rovers

This weekend’s clash with Doncaster is a six-pointer the likes of which we have rarely seen at the Bank in my lifetime.

It is a promotion clash of epic proportions, arguably one of the best sides we have come up against visiting us for the right to potentially be named favourites for promotion. If they win, they’re the only team who could go above us by winning games in hand, etc. If we win, our fate is in our own hands without goal difference.

Yes, there is a long way to go, but that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t love a win tomorrow, to cap off a memorable week for the Imps. Whatever the result, tomorrow is the resumption of an age-old rivalry that has seen 113 meetings and plenty of transfer business conducted between us to. One that immediately springs to my mind, which isn’t on the list, is John Schofield, who switched between us and Donny both as a player, and a staff member. They also loaned us Riccardo Calder back in the 2016/17 season, just as left-back cover. He did go on to achieve infamy elsewhere and wouldn’t go down as a player to remember from that great season.

I might only be scratching the surface here, but I have selected a handful of players who have represented both us and Doncaster Rovers. Enjoy.

You can now find any player featured in these lists indexed under the menu heading ‘From the Archives’. I’ll be building up a database of former Imps on there, and linking to pages such as these. That’s why all the players have a separate page of their own.
