The transfer window is almost upon us, and not a moment too soon.
In 33 days, Michael Appleton can start to put the disappointment of deadline day behind him, and move forward with the squad. Having looked depleted and threadbare in recent weeks, he’ll be delighted at the chance to chance his luck once again.
Anyone who tells me we have a poor track record with transfers under Michael is, in my opinion, wrong. The first window he was in charge, we signed Anthony Scully and Tayo Edun, to name but two. One has earned us around £500,000 already, the other is often linked with a bigger move. He signed Brennan Johnson and TJ Eyoma on loan in his next window, both of whom were monsters for us last season. Johnson was never in our reach permanently, but Eyoma has arrived here now and will, hopefully, be a big player further down the line.
Last window, he picked up Morgan Rogers on loan, lauded by many of our fans, and Regan Poole, who is a permanent starter for us this season. They’re some of the highlights, without mentioning solid professionals such as Adam Jackson and, Tom Hopper, Lewis Montsma and Conor McGrandles. In fact, Michael is one man I would want in charge over a window, because this one just gone is the only one I feel we’ve come out of short, and even then we bagged TJ on a permanent deal, which many feel was solid business.
One aspect of many of our signings worth mentioning is age; many of them have been young, with experience in their club’s Under 18 setup. That got me thinking; who could potentially target this winter? I’ve gone through the current Premier League 2 scorers charts, cross-referenced it with teams we’ve dealt with and positions we need, and come up with a list of players that might fit our requirements.
It’s just for fun, but I hope you enjoy it.
