Imps All-Time Foreign XI

With all the talk of the Imps targeting players from Scandinavia, I thought it might be fun to put together a team of foreign players from Imps history.

I had a couple of caveats. I didn’t want to include members of the current squad (a bit easy with Reeco, Lasse, Lukas and Lewis), nor did I want to include loan players. However, I still felt there might be some fun to be had picking a team. As it turns out, it’s not all that easy.

However, picking a really loose 3-5-2, I have come up with what I think looks like an acceptable Imps Foreign XI. Let me know if you think I’ve missed anyone out!

GK: Simon Rayner – Canada

Canadian Rayner arrived at City as an understudy for Alan Marriott and remained as his understudy without threatening to dislodge him from the first team.

He made his debut in a 1-1 draw with Chester in September 2004 and appeared again in the Football League Trophy a few days later. He then waited a year before another run of three games, ending with a 1-0 home defeat by Cheltenham.

It was then another 12 months before he featured again, this time in a Carling Cup defeat to Scunthorpe, and again as a sub in a trophy game against Grimsby. However, the lack of first team chances resulted in him going out on loan to Torquay, before the move was made permanent at the end of the season.
