‘Lincoln Will Go Up In Second’ – Birmingham City Opposition View

City fell to their second league defeat of the season on Saturday to a very impressive Birmingham City side, writes Kyle Fox.

After a hard-fought 90 minutes and one massive moment, we ended up falling short. Blue’s boss, Chris Davies, gave his thoughts on the game and his side’s performance in his post-match interview with Birmingham City media.

Just like many Imps fans on Saturday morning, I was hopeful leading up to the game and confident of the fact we would push them all the way looking for a result out the game. That’s exactly what happened. It was a performance to be proud of and a game we can take a lot from.

They were the best side I have seen us play in the League since coming to watch Lincoln. I think the fact we matched them for big portions of the game, shows the level we are now at as a team. Unfortunately though, Birmingham’s undeniable quality showed through when it came to the goals they scored from an xG of just 0.68. The build up play from the visitors was excellent for their goals to go along with their domination of possession.

Chris Davies reflected on this in his interview.

“I think it was a really strong performance overall. Obviously started the game as poorly as you can possibly start a game. Conceding a goal within the first minute.”

“But, it was like a blink of an eye and that was over and we were straight into the game again. From there, I thought we were dominant, we had a lot of the ball, we had a lot of control, we created chances. I was really happy with the performance.”

“There’s a belief there that they (Birmingham’s players) know that if they stay consistent and relentless in what we do. Then, we will create the chances to score and overturn that deficit. That’s what we’ve done today.”

Former Imps keeper Ryan Allsop who played a big role in the win for Birmingham, mentioned in his interview that he had ‘done his homework’ on the way to the game. This was after being asked whether he had done research on City’s penalty takers.

Both interviews from Allsop and Davies demonstrated a positive outlook on their performance but also both mentioning their frustration with conceding so early on. There is nothing to pick from either interview from a Lincoln point of view positively or negatively which can happen if the questions make it that way. Nothing wrong with that just makes my job harder!

The fan reaction was very similar as will probably be a common theme throughout the season for Blue’s fans now. The overall feeling as you’d expect is very positive online as they kept their place at the top of the table.
