Recruitment Podcast Summary: Six Players Our Imps Fans Think Would Work At Sincil Bank

James Furlong

While Hume would be the starter, Hull City’s James Furlong could be the cover — or even a long-term option. Still just 21, Furlong spent 2023/24 on loan at AFC Wimbledon, making 22 League Two appearances and showing glimpses of real promise. He came through at Shamrock Rovers, joined Brighton, had a loan at Motherwell, and now finds himself looking for a stable permanent home.

Statistically, he offers attacking output — ranking third in his age bracket for crosses per 90 and accuracy. Defensively, he’s decent in one-on-one scenarios but does struggle in the air. Importantly, he’s another left-footer who can play full-back or wing-back and is also comfortable progressing the ball from deep.

With Hull unlikely to block his departure and Furlong entering the final year of his deal, this could be a classic “buy low, develop, sell high” move. If we do retain Roughan, this would make even more sense — a talented young full-back who could develop behind an established first choice.
