I want to do an article on players who have played for both clubs, when we get to play a team with whom we have shared a lot of players.
My knowledge is limited to players of my era, so while I do know (for instance) Dave Smith played for both, for these articles, I’m more likely to pick players I know.
When I say this is the best 5-a-side team, it really is just a 5-a-side team of players to have appeared for both. Let’s see how this goes down and if you want to, why not suggest your own in the comments?
GK: Mike Pollitt
I could have gone for Josh Vickers here, but I wanted to keep it a little bit retro. Besides, this is a player who played in the Premier League!
Pollitt was a youth at Man Utd, later joining Bury. He came to us on loan from the Shakers, making the move permanent in 1992. He featured regularly under both Steve Thompson and Keith Alexander, but was never what could be regarded as a ‘stalwart’ in the sticks. Famed for having a punch-up outside Ritzy in October of 1992 and playing against Barnet with a black eye.
He was transfer-listed by Sam Ellis and quickly moved to Darlington before spending the rest of his career hopping from club to club. Established himself as Rotherham’s number one in two spells and surprisingly eventually kept goal in the Premier League for Wigan Athletic.
He’s currently the goalkeeper coach at Preston North End.
